Sudocrem for eczema on hands: what to know

Hand eczema is often aggravated by frequent washing, cleaning products, solvents, gloves, or wet work. The skin may feel dry and tight, itch, split around the fingers, or develop painful areas on the palms. Sudocrem's barrier can reduce contact with irritants for some people, yet a heavy layer may interfere with grip and can irritate already fissured skin. Persistent hand changes can also reflect contact dermatitis, so the trigger matters as much as the cream.

Test a little on intact skin and stop if burning or worsening redness develops. If tolerated, use a thin layer on clean, dry skin; do not apply it in the eyes or mouth. Wash with lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser, pat dry, and moisturise immediately. Wear protective gloves for cleaning, with cotton liners if sweating is a problem, and remove rings before washing so moisture does not stay trapped. A clinician may recommend a targeted treatment when inflammation is significant.

Book an assessment when hand eczema is painful, repeatedly cracking, bleeding, weeping, or interfering with work and sleep. Seek prompt care for spreading warmth, swelling, pus, or thick crusting, which can signal infection. Sudden swelling of the face or breathing difficulty needs emergency help.
