What should you know about Sudocrem for cradle cap?

Cradle cap is a common form of infantile seborrheic dermatitis, with greasy or dry scales on the scalp. It often causes little discomfort, so repeated rubbing or scraping can irritate the skin more than the flakes themselves. Sudocrem is a thick barrier product designed to protect irritated skin; on a hairy scalp it can be difficult to remove and may make the scale harder to see.

Loosen scale with a small amount of a baby-suitable emollient, leave it briefly, then wash with mild baby shampoo and use a soft brush without picking. Rinse thoroughly and stop if the scalp becomes sore. Ask a health professional before applying any medicated product to an infant. Emollient Therapy may be discussed if the scalp is dry, while Topical Antifungal Treatment is reserved for situations where a clinician identifies a condition needing it.

Contact a clinician if the scalp is very red, swollen, cracked, bleeding, wet, crusted, or has an unpleasant smell. Seek advice if the rash spreads beyond the scalp, the baby seems unwell, or itching is severe. A persistent rash may be eczema, infection, or another condition rather than uncomplicated cradle cap, so avoid experimenting with several creams at once.
