What should you know about subcision technique?

The clinician marks the depression, cleans the skin, and uses local anaesthetic so the treatment area is numb. A needle or blunt-edged cannula may then be guided beneath the scar with controlled movements to separate selected fibrous strands. The choice of instrument and entry points depends on the scar's depth, size, location, and the clinician's examination.

Releasing the attachment creates space beneath the scar as healing begins. Bruising, swelling, tenderness, temporary numbness, firmness, and uneven appearance can follow. The technique is different from laser resurfacing, which works mainly at the skin surface and may be considered for another scar feature.

Tell the clinician about allergies, active acne or infection, bleeding concerns, medicines, supplements, and previous reactions to anaesthetic. After treatment, follow the specific cleaning and dressing instructions, avoid pressure and picking, and pause irritating skincare until cleared. Keep follow-up appointments so healing and scar mobility can be assessed.
