Stye in the lower inner eyelid

Because it sits on the inner surface, the swelling may feel scratchy when you blink and can make the lower lid look puffy. It may produce watering, mild redness, tenderness, or a small amount of discharge. A stye is different from a deeper eye problem, but its position can make it harder to see clearly.

Do not squeeze or pierce the bump. Pressure can irritate the surrounding tissue and spread inflammation. Contact lens wear and eye makeup can further rub the area while it is sore.

Wash your hands, then hold a clean warm compress against the closed eye for several minutes. Repeat this through the day using a freshly clean cloth each time. Keep the eyelid clean, pause contact lenses and eye makeup, and avoid sharing towels.

Arrange medical advice if pain or swelling is increasing, the redness is spreading beyond the eyelid, vision changes, light becomes uncomfortable, or the eye cannot open normally. Seek urgent help for severe eye pain, marked facial swelling, fever, or difficulty moving the eye.
