Stye and pregnancy: what to know

A stye is a tender, localised swelling near an eyelash or eyelid gland. It can cause redness, soreness, watering, or a small spot at the lid edge. Pregnancy does not change the basic nature of a stye, but it is sensible to check any eye treatment before using it. Wash your hands before touching the eyelid. Hold a clean, comfortably warm cloth over the closed eye for several minutes, then repeat this routine through the day with a freshly cleaned cloth. Do not squeeze, pierce, or rub the bump. Pause eye makeup and contact lenses until the lid feels normal, and avoid sharing towels.
