Short answer

A stuffy nose with light-headedness and tiredness can result from infection, allergy, poor sleep, dehydration or another cause that needs assessment.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What it may mean

Nasal congestion can make breathing through the nose harder and disturb sleep. A cold or sinus inflammation may bring fatigue, while allergic rhinitis can cause congestion without fever. Light-headedness may also follow not drinking enough, skipping meals, standing quickly, or breathing poorly during disrupted sleep. Obstructive sleep apnoea is worth discussing if loud snoring, witnessed pauses in breathing or morning headaches accompany persistent tiredness. These symptoms do not identify one diagnosis by themselves.

What to do now

Rest, drink fluids regularly, and eat normally if you can. Saline nasal spray or a gentle saline rinse may loosen mucus; use sterile or previously boiled and cooled water for a rinse. Avoid driving or climbing while light-headed. Reduce exposure to smoke, dust and known allergens. A pharmacist or clinician can explain whether allergy medication is suitable, especially if you take other medicines or have high blood pressure.

When to seek care

Seek urgent medical help for fainting, confusion, severe breathing difficulty, chest pain, new weakness, trouble speaking, or a sudden severe headache. Arrange a clinical review if light-headedness persists, tiredness is marked, symptoms keep returning, or congestion lasts beyond a typical short illness. Contact a clinician sooner if you are pregnant, immunocompromised, or managing a long-term condition.

Questions for your doctor

Could an allergy, infection, medicine, dehydration or sleep problem explain this pattern? What should I use for congestion, and how long should I try it? Do my snoring, sleep quality or other symptoms suggest a need for assessment?
