How to ease restless legs quickly

Short answer
There is no guaranteed instant cure for restless legs, but movement, gentle stretching, warmth and reducing triggers may ease an episode.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What restless legs may mean
Restless legs is an uncomfortable urge to move, often felt deep in the legs and more noticeable during quiet periods or at night. Symptoms can be linked with Restless Legs Syndrome, but similar sensations may also occur with Iron Deficiency Anaemia, Peripheral Neuropathy or Chronic Kidney Disease. A symptom alone cannot identify its cause.
What you can try during an episode
Walk around for a few minutes, then stretch the calves, thighs and ankles gently. A warm shower, heat pack or leg massage may settle the sensation; some people prefer a cool pack. Keep caffeine, nicotine and alcohol away from the evening if they worsen symptoms, and keep a regular sleep routine. Do not start Iron Supplementation without checking whether iron is low, because unnecessary supplements can cause harm.
When to seek care
Arrange a medical review if episodes keep disturbing sleep, are becoming more frequent, or began after a new medicine. Seek urgent help for one-sided leg swelling, redness and pain, sudden weakness, severe numbness, chest pain or breathlessness. These features need assessment for problems beyond ordinary restless sensations.
Questions for your doctor
Ask whether blood tests should check iron levels and whether a medicine, kidney problem or nerve condition could be contributing. Tell the clinician when symptoms start, what relieves them, whether walking helps and how sleep is affected.
