What should you know about Spectra Q-switched Nd:YAG laser?

Nd:YAG identifies the laser medium, while Q-switched describes how the stored energy is released in a very short pulse. This combination can deliver energy to a chosen target with less broad heating of the surface than a longer, continuous exposure. The treatment purpose still determines the settings.

A clinic may use an Nd:YAG system in different protocols, including selected pigment work or hair-related treatment. Skin tone, target depth, hair colour, previous tanning and a tendency to develop dark marks all influence whether the approach is suitable.

Tell the clinician about recent tanning, medicines, pregnancy, active skin disease, infection, cold sores and prior reactions to laser. Follow instructions about shaving, plucking, creams and makeup because preparation differs by target.

Expect the treated area to be monitored for warmth, redness, swelling or temporary colour change. Use the advised cleanser, moisturiser and sun protection. Avoid heat, friction, picking and unapproved active products until the clinician says the skin has recovered.

Contact the provider if discomfort increases instead of easing, blisters appear, swelling is pronounced, or the area develops spreading redness, crusting or discharge. Seek urgent care for breathing difficulty, severe facial swelling or eye symptoms. Do not laser a changing mole or unexplained lesion without medical review.
