What should you know about spanx after liposuction?

After liposuction, treated areas can be swollen, tender, and uneven as fluid shifts and tissues recover. A garment applies gentle, even pressure and can reduce rubbing while you move. Commercial shapewear is not automatically suitable: seams, stiff panels, tight edges, or the wrong size may press on incisions or restrict breathing and circulation. Compression does not remove remaining fat or determine the final contour.

Use the garment only when your surgical team says it is appropriate, and follow their schedule for wearing and washing it. It should feel supportive rather than sharply painful, numb, cold, or restrictive. Check the skin and incision areas during changes, keeping dressings and wounds managed as instructed. Avoid folding the fabric into bands. Wear loose clothing over it and keep walking, bathing, and medication routines aligned with your discharge plan. Do not add another tight layer without approval.

Call the surgical team promptly for rapidly increasing swelling, severe or one-sided pain, new drainage, spreading redness, fever, wound separation, or skin that becomes dusky, cold, or numb under the garment. Emergency help is needed for chest pain, sudden shortness of breath, fainting, or coughing blood. Loosen or remove a garment only as your discharge instructions allow, particularly if symptoms suggest impaired circulation.

Ask which garment design and size are suitable, when to put it on and remove it, how to handle sleep and showering, and what discomfort is expected. Ask how often your incisions should be checked and whom to contact if the fit changes as swelling settles.
