Sore throat and whooping cough

Whooping Cough, also called pertussis, often starts with throat irritation, runny nose, or tiredness before a persistent cough becomes the main symptom. Coughing may come in repeated bursts and can disturb sleep or cause vomiting. Some people make a whooping sound when breathing in, while others do not. A sore throat by itself does not establish whooping cough; the cough pattern, duration, contact history, and vaccination history help a clinician judge the possibility.
