Sore throat, cough and hoarse voice

A Common Cold can inflame the throat and vocal cords, producing cough and a rough or weak voice. Repeated coughing, shouting, singing, or speaking over noise can prolong that irritation. Acid Reflux may bring stomach contents towards the throat and cause hoarseness, throat clearing, or cough, sometimes without heartburn. Chronic Cough can keep the voice box irritated. Less common causes include Hypothyroidism or a growth affecting the throat, lungs, or thyroid; these are not diagnosed from this symptom combination alone.

Rest your voice by speaking gently and avoiding shouting or whispering. Drink fluids, avoid smoke, and use moist air if it feels helpful. Do not repeatedly clear your throat; try a sip of water instead. If reflux seems possible, note whether symptoms follow meals or lying down and discuss practical changes with a clinician or pharmacist. Cough medicines are not suitable for everyone, so check before using them.

Seek emergency help for breathing difficulty, noisy breathing, coughing blood, or inability to swallow saliva. Arrange prompt review for a neck lump, unexplained weight change, worsening pain, repeated chest infections, or a hoarse voice that does not settle. A clinician may examine your mouth, throat, neck, and voice box and decide whether further tests are useful.
