Small red spots on hands and feet: what they may mean

Because hands and feet have different skin structures, the exact site matters. Spots around hairs on the backs of the hands or feet may fit Folliculitis; shaving can contribute to Razor Bumps. Acne and Hormonal Acne are less typical on hair-sparse palms and soles. Rosacea and Perioral Dermatitis generally favour facial skin. Acne-like bumps elsewhere can still be recorded as Pimples until examined. Note whether the spots are on palms or soles, between fingers or toes, itchy, painful, scaly, blistered, or linked to footwear, gloves, soap, or exercise.

Rinse away irritants, dry carefully between fingers and toes, and use a gentle fragrance-free cleanser. Choose breathable footwear and avoid tight gloves, harsh exfoliation, picking, and close shaving over inflamed skin. Keep a brief record of new products, activities, and changes in the spots.
