Small Cell Lymphoma in Dogs

Lymphoma affects cells of the immune system. Enlarged lymph nodes, weight loss, reduced appetite, vomiting, diarrhoea, tiredness, or changes in drinking and toileting can occur, but these signs have many possible causes. A veterinarian may recommend blood tests, sampling a lymph node or tissue, and imaging such as a PET-CT Scan when appropriate. A pathology report helps distinguish lymphoma type and grade.

Arrange a veterinary oncology assessment and bring a list of medicines, appetite changes, bowel changes, and recent weight observations. Treatment may include Chemotherapy, with the plan adapted to your dog's comfort, blood counts, and response. Radiotherapy or other specialist treatments may be considered for selected situations. Supportive care, nutrition, and clear home monitoring are part of the plan.

Contact the veterinarian urgently if your dog has trouble breathing, collapse, repeated vomiting, bloody diarrhoea, a swollen or painful abdomen, cannot keep water down, or becomes unusually weak. During treatment, ask which temperature, appetite, stool, or energy changes require a same-day call, because infection and dehydration can worsen quickly.
