Small cell lung cancer therapy

The team first confirms the diagnosis and assesses where the cancer is, how well the lungs and other organs are working, and what matters most to you. Small cell lung cancer can spread beyond the chest, so treatment often needs to reach cancer cells throughout the body.

Chemotherapy uses medicines that travel through the bloodstream. Immunotherapy helps the immune system recognise and respond to cancer in selected situations. Radiotherapy uses focused radiation for the chest, brain or another area when local control or symptom relief is needed.

Ask for a written schedule, expected side effects and a contact number for urgent concerns. Tell the team about medicines, allergies, dental problems, infections, hearing or nerve symptoms and any wish to preserve work or family routines.
