What should you know about skin tags on chest?

A chest skin tag is a small flap or stalk of extra skin. It may rub against a bra, shirt, necklace or nearby skin, particularly around the upper chest or beneath the breasts. A mole, wart, cyst or another growth can have a similar appearance. A clinician can assess colour, texture, attachment and recent change to identify the finding safely.

Choose clothing that does not catch the lesion, keep the fold beneath the breasts dry, and avoid shaving across it. Do not snip or tie it off, and do not use home freezing products without a diagnosis. Have the lesion checked if it changes in colour or outline, grows quickly, feels hard, becomes persistently painful, crusts, opens or bleeds without friction. Prompt care is appropriate for spreading redness, warmth, pus or fever. A new lump in breast tissue is not automatically a skin tag and should be assessed separately, especially if it feels deeper than the skin.

Ask whether the growth is confined to the skin, whether clothing or moisture is irritating it, and which removal method suits the chest area. Ask about wound care, sun protection during healing and symptoms that should prompt follow-up.
