Skin Tag on Cheek: What to Know

Skin tags are soft, non-cancerous growths that can be flesh-coloured or slightly darker and may project from the skin. On the cheek, repeated touching, shaving nearby hair or friction from a mask can make one noticeable or irritated. A clinician considers its shape, surface, attachment and history rather than relying on location alone.

A facial bump may instead be a mole, wart, sebaceous growth, cyst or another lesion. A new or changing spot therefore merits an examination, particularly when it is scaly, crusted, persistently sore or different from your other marks.

After assessment, a clinician may use cryotherapy to freeze the lesion, electrosurgery to treat it with controlled heat, or a small removal procedure. Facial skin needs careful handling because temporary redness, pigment change or a mark can occur during healing. Do not snip the tag or apply wart remover near the eye, nose or mouth. Follow wound-care and sun-protection advice after treatment.

Book a dermatology review if the cheek growth changes in size, colour or outline, bleeds without being scratched, forms a persistent crust or becomes painful. After treatment, contact the clinic for spreading redness, swelling, discharge, escalating tenderness or fever. A lesion close to the eyelid or eye should be assessed before any cosmetic procedure.
