Can you freeze away a skin tag?

Cryotherapy uses controlled cold to damage the tissue of a selected skin lesion. The treated area may sting, swell, blister, crust, or change colour while it heals. The response depends on the lesion, its thickness, and the surrounding skin, so a freezing treatment intended for one body site may not suit another.

A tag that is dark, firm, inflamed, or changing may need assessment rather than immediate freezing. Freezing an uncertain lesion can obscure its appearance and delay the right diagnosis.

Have the growth examined before choosing a removal method. Tell the clinician about poor wound healing, immune problems, allergies, medicines that affect bleeding, or previous colour changes after skin injury. Do not freeze a lesion at home or share products between people.

After treatment, follow the wound-care instructions, keep the area clean, and avoid picking a blister or crust. Skin Tag Removal or Electrosurgery may be discussed when freezing is unsuitable or when a different method gives better control.

Contact the treating service if pain is worsening, swelling spreads, drainage develops, or the wound is not settling as expected. Seek urgent help for heavy bleeding, facial or eye-area swelling that affects vision, or signs of a serious allergic reaction.
