Short answer

The usual oily-skin routine order is gentle cleanse, treatment if advised, lightweight moisturiser, and daytime sunscreen.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

At a glance

Morning finish
Broad-spectrum sunscreen
If irritation starts
Simplify and pause the newest active

Why order helps

A routine works more predictably when products are applied in a simple sequence. Cleansing removes surface residue; a prescribed or selected treatment then reaches clean, dry skin; moisturiser supports comfort; sunscreen finishes the morning routine. Oily skin can still become dehydrated, so a shiny appearance is not a reason to omit hydration.

Acne may involve blocked pores and inflammation. Hormonal acne can follow a recurring pattern, while seborrheic dermatitis may cause greasy scale and itch in characteristic areas. These patterns call for different treatment choices.

Step-by-step routine

In the morning, cleanse gently, apply any recommended treatment, use a lightweight non-comedogenic moisturiser, and finish with broad-spectrum sunscreen. In the evening, cleanse again, apply the evening treatment if prescribed, then moisturise. Follow the product directions rather than applying more for faster results.

Introduce one new active at a time. If stinging, peeling, or redness appears, pause the newest active and simplify the routine until the skin is comfortable. Avoid rough scrubs, picking, and frequent product changes. Cleanse after exercise, but do not repeatedly wash just to remove shine. Isotretinoin treatment is a clinician-supervised option for selected acne presentations, not a routine cosmetic step.

When to get advice

See a dermatologist for deep or painful spots, scarring, widespread inflammation, persistent itch and scale, or a routine that causes ongoing irritation. Prompt assessment is needed for facial swelling, blistering, eye involvement, or a rapidly spreading rash. Oily skin does not by itself diagnose acne.

Questions to ask

Ask which product belongs in each step, whether treatment should be applied before or after moisturiser, and how to adjust the plan if dryness develops. Ask what improvement to look for and when the diagnosis or treatment should be reassessed.
