What should you know about skin cancer white spots on skin from sun?

Small pale or white marks can follow sun exposure for several reasons, including reduced pigment, healing after irritation, fungal changes, or other skin conditions. A white spot is not, by itself, evidence of cancer. Note whether the area is smooth or scaly, whether hairs within it have changed colour, and whether it is spreading or associated with itching. A clinician may examine the skin under magnification and check nearby areas to identify the pattern and decide whether testing is needed.

Take a dated photograph in natural light and avoid tanning or irritating products while you observe the area. Use shade, clothing, and sunscreen on exposed skin because pale areas can burn more easily. Do not use acne products or bleaching creams on an undiagnosed white mark.
