What looks similar to a cherry angioma?

Cherry angiomas are usually small, rounded vascular spots that may be bright red, purple, or darker as blood dries after minor trauma. Similar marks can include an irritated skin tag, a blood blister, a spider angioma, or another pigmented or vascular growth. A photo alone cannot reliably separate every possibility. A clinician looks at symmetry, borders, colour variation, firmness, surface changes, and whether the spot has appeared or altered recently.

Take a clear photograph beside a familiar object for scale and note when you first noticed the spot. Avoid picking or trying to burn it off, since bleeding can obscure its features and injure surrounding skin. If it catches on clothing or affects appearance, a dermatologist can discuss removal after confirming the diagnosis. Pulsed dye laser treatment or electrosurgery may be considered for selected vascular lesions.

Book a prompt skin review for a spot that grows, changes colour or shape, develops an irregular edge, crusts, bleeds repeatedly, or becomes persistently painful. Seek faster care if bleeding does not stop with steady pressure. A new cluster of marks, or a lesion unlike the others on your skin, also merits professional assessment.
