Signs of a yeast infection on the skin

Candida yeast can multiply where skin rubs together and moisture stays trapped, such as beneath the breasts, in the groin, or between skin folds. The area may feel raw, burn, crack, or ooze slightly. A rash that looks similar can also come from irritation, eczema, bacterial infection, or another condition, so appearance alone cannot confirm the cause.

Gently wash and dry the area, choose loose breathable clothing, and change damp garments promptly. Avoid fragranced products and scratching. A clinician or pharmacist can advise whether an antifungal treatment is suitable, especially if the rash is new, extensive, recurrent, or not improving.

Arrange medical advice for spreading redness, marked swelling, pus, fever, severe pain, open cracks, or repeated episodes. Seek prompt assessment if you have diabetes, a weakened immune system, or are pregnant. A rash involving the vulva with discharge or pain may need a separate assessment.
