Signs and symptoms of hyperthyroidism

Short answer
Hyperthyroidism can cause a fast or irregular heartbeat, heat intolerance, sweating, anxiety, poor sleep, and diarrhoea.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

How an overactive thyroid can feel
When the thyroid releases more hormone than the body needs, body processes can speed up. People with hyperthyroidism may feel unusually warm, sweat more, lose weight without intending to, or notice trembling and muscle weakness. Palpitations, nervousness, irritability, difficulty sleeping, and more frequent bowel movements may occur together or separately.
Symptoms can overlap with stress, medication effects, infection, and other conditions. A clinician usually considers the pattern, examines the neck and pulse, and arranges thyroid blood tests. A symptom such as night sweats alone does not establish a thyroid disorder.
What to do next
Book a GP appointment if several of these changes persist, especially palpitations with heat intolerance, tremor, or unexplained weight loss. Bring a list of medicines and supplements, including products containing thyroid hormone or stimulants. Record when symptoms occur, your resting pulse if you can measure it safely, and any changes in bowel habits or sleep. Do not start or stop thyroid treatment without clinical advice.
When to seek urgent help
Get urgent help for chest pain, severe breathlessness, fainting, new confusion, or a very rapid or irregular heartbeat with weakness. High fever, agitation, or a sudden major worsening in someone known to have hyperthyroidism also requires emergency assessment.
Questions to ask
Could my symptoms be related to thyroid hormone levels? Which blood tests are appropriate? Could any medicine or supplement be contributing? How should I respond if palpitations become stronger, and when should I seek urgent help?

Questions people ask
Can anxiety be caused by hyperthyroidism?
Hyperthyroidism can produce feelings of anxiety or inner restlessness, but anxiety has other possible causes and needs assessment in context.
Does diarrhoea prove the thyroid is overactive?
No. Diarrhoea is a common symptom with many causes; persistent symptoms should be assessed rather than self-diagnosed.
