Before reduction, clinicians check circulation, sensation, and movement and may obtain imaging. They may use gentle traction, positioning, and relaxation rather than abrupt force. Pain relief or sedation can be considered according to the situation. The procedure is stopped or changed if resistance, pain, or examination findings raise concern for another injury.

Afterward, the team repeats the neurovascular examination and may take a follow-up image. A successful relocation still requires assessment for torn or stretched tissues and future instability.

Do not copy a reduction technique from a video or reference guide. Support the injured arm in the position that feels least painful and attend urgent care. After treatment, follow the plan for support, movement restrictions, medication, and rehabilitation. Physiotherapy can help rebuild shoulder control once healing allows.

Get urgent medical care for a shoulder that looks displaced, severe pain after injury, or inability to move the arm. Numbness, increasing weakness, a cold hand, or colour change may indicate a nerve or circulation problem and requires immediate attention. After relocation, urgent review is needed if deformity returns or symptoms suddenly worsen.

Ask which direction the shoulder moved, whether imaging shows a fracture, what comfort measures are available, and how the chosen technique affects aftercare. Clarify when movement, driving, work, and sport may resume.
