What should you know about sharp pain during sexually active male?

Pain on the penis may follow friction, a small skin injury, foreskin tightness, or inflammation. Pain in the testicle, groin, or pelvis can have different causes, including infection or irritation involving the urinary or reproductive tract. Pain with ejaculation, burning when urinating, discharge, sores, or swelling gives a clinician useful direction. The pain does not identify one diagnosis by itself, and a sexual-health or urology assessment may be needed.

Stop sexual activity that causes sharp pain and allow any irritated skin to settle. Avoid fragranced products, vigorous friction, and self-treatment with leftover antibiotics. Note whether pain occurs during erection, penetration, ejaculation, or urination, and record swelling, discharge, fever, or an injury. Arrange medical review when pain recurs, persists, or affects sexual function. A clinician may examine the genitals and ask about sexual exposure, urinary symptoms, and recent trauma.

Seek emergency care for sudden severe testicular pain, a testicle that looks higher or twisted, major swelling after injury, inability to urinate, fainting, or fever with severe pain. Prompt review is needed for blood in urine or semen, new genital sores, or discharge with pain. Do not wait for symptoms to become unbearable.
