What should you know about seroquel irritability?

Irritability can involve a shorter temper, agitation, feeling easily overwhelmed or reacting more strongly than usual. It may appear after starting Seroquel, changing the dose, missing doses or taking it alongside another medicine. It can also accompany insomnia, depression, generalised anxiety disorder or burnout. Low blood glucose, called hypoglycaemia, may cause sweating, shaking, weakness, confusion or unusual behaviour, particularly in people using diabetes medicines.

The timing and pattern matter. Note whether irritability occurs before a dose, after a dose, during poor sleep or with other symptoms. A change does not automatically show that Seroquel is the cause, so a prescriber should assess the full picture.

Take Seroquel exactly as prescribed and do not stop it abruptly. Keep a brief record of doses, sleep, mood, food intake and other medicines. Avoid alcohol or recreational drugs while seeking advice, because they can worsen sedation or mood changes. Contact the prescriber if irritability is new, persistent or interfering with relationships, work or sleep. Insomnia Management may help with routines, but it does not replace a medication review.

Get urgent help for thoughts of self-harm or harming someone else, severe confusion, hallucinations, extreme agitation, fainting, seizure, breathing difficulty or signs of dangerously low blood glucose. Seek prompt review for markedly reduced need for sleep, unusually high energy or risky behaviour, especially if these changes are sudden.
