Prognosis is an informed clinical estimate, not a fixed timetable. Secondary lung cancer can behave differently depending on where it began, whether cancer is present in one or several areas, how well organs are working, and how the tumour responds to treatment. Your team may use follow-up scans, examination, blood tests and symptom changes to understand whether treatment is helping. Life expectancy cannot be calculated accurately from the words secondary lung cancer alone. Ask for information in the amount you can use now, and tell the team whether you want broad possibilities, planning help, or both.

Ask your oncologist to explain the main factors affecting your outlook and what the next scan is intended to show.
