An online service may let you upload reports and images, describe your history, and receive a written opinion or consultation. A careful review should identify who assessed the case, which records were considered, what remains uncertain, and how the recommendation relates to your diagnosis and goals. Records-only review cannot replace a physical examination when examination findings affect the decision. It also cannot manage an emergency or issue every local prescription or referral.

Look for a named specialist or team, relevant oncology experience, a clear process for correcting incomplete records, and a way to send the opinion to your treating clinicians. Read the privacy information before uploading scans, pathology documents, or identity details.

Confirm the service’s clinical team, location, registration details where applicable, consultation format, expected report contents, and communication route for follow-up questions. Prepare the original imaging files, radiology and pathology reports, treatment list, allergies, procedure history, and a short timeline. Remove unrelated personal documents. Ask whether the reviewer will state alternative explanations, suggested next investigations, and circumstances that should prompt urgent care. Keep a copy of everything submitted and received.

Call emergency services or attend urgent care for severe breathlessness, chest pain, major bleeding, sudden weakness, a new seizure, or rapidly worsening confusion. Online review is not a substitute for immediate assessment. If a treatment decision is time-sensitive, tell both services and your treating team so the review does not create an unsafe delay.
