What should you know about SDAI rheumatoid arthritis?

The Simplified Disease Activity Index combines findings from a joint examination with the clinician's overall assessment, your own assessment, and a blood marker of inflammation when available. It helps describe how active rheumatoid arthritis is at a particular visit and can support treatment discussions over time.

Rheumatoid arthritis commonly presents with patterns such as joint pain, joint swelling, morning stiffness, hand swelling, or finger stiffness. These symptoms can have other causes, so their presence does not establish rheumatoid arthritis. A clinician considers the pattern, duration, examination, and tests together.

Keep a brief record of morning stiffness, swollen joints, pain, fatigue, function, and medicine effects before review. Take medicines exactly as prescribed and do not stop an anti-inflammatory or disease-directed treatment without guidance. Bring recent test results and mention infections, new rashes, stomach symptoms, or changes in pregnancy plans.

Arrange timely medical review for persistent joint swelling, worsening stiffness, or loss of hand function. Seek urgent help for a hot swollen joint with fever, severe sudden pain, chest pain, marked breathlessness, or a serious medicine reaction such as facial swelling or difficulty breathing.
