Scar tissue silicone sheets: what to know

The sheet creates a hydrated, protected surface over scar tissue. This can make a raised or firm scar feel less tight and may gradually improve its texture and colour. It is intended for healed skin, not an open wound, scab, draining area, or infected incision. Silicone care does not erase a scar or replace assessment of an unusual growth.

Follow the product instructions and any advice from your clinician. Apply it to clean, dry, intact skin, beginning with a manageable period of wear if your skin is sensitive. Remove it to wash both the skin and sheet, then let the skin dry before replacing it. Stop if redness, rash, blistering, or increasing soreness develops. Avoid placing adhesive over a fresh incision unless the treating team has confirmed that the surface is ready.

Choose a size that covers the scar without pulling on nearby skin. Consistent use matters more than pressing firmly. If the scar remains bulky, painful, or restrictive, a dermatologist or surgeon can discuss options such as scar revision surgery.

Arrange medical review if the scar becomes hot, increasingly red, swollen, tender, or starts draining, because these changes can signal infection. Seek prompt assessment for bleeding that does not settle, rapid enlargement, severe pain, or a wound that is reopening. A scar that crosses a joint and limits movement also deserves evaluation rather than repeated self-treatment.
