Sarcoidosis Rash on the Chest: What to Know

Cutaneous sarcoidosis is a skin form of sarcoidosis, an inflammatory condition that can affect more than one body system. Skin changes may be smooth or scaly, raised or flat, and lighter, darker, red, brown, or violaceous depending on skin tone and the individual pattern. A chest location alone does not identify the cause. Eczema, contact irritation, a medication reaction, heat rash, psoriasis, fungal infection, and other conditions can look similar.

A clinician may ask when the marks began, whether they itch or hurt, whether they are changing, and whether you have symptoms such as cough, breathlessness, eye discomfort, joint pain, or fatigue. A skin examination and sometimes a biopsy help connect the appearance with a diagnosis.

Arrange a dermatology or primary-care assessment if the rash persists, spreads, recurs, or is unexplained. Bring a list of medicines and supplements, note any recent product or outdoor exposure, and take dated photographs in consistent lighting to show its evolution. Use a gentle cleanser and bland moisturiser, avoid picking, and pause newly introduced fragranced products if they seem to irritate the area. Do not apply steroid or antifungal treatment for a presumed diagnosis without advice, because it can change the appearance and delay clarification.

Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, chest pain, faintness, rapid facial swelling, or a rash with blistering, skin peeling, mouth sores, or eye involvement. Arrange prompt review for fever, marked tenderness, pus, rapidly spreading redness, or a new rash soon after starting a medicine. These features need assessment for causes and complications beyond a simple local irritation.
