Safe medicine for acid reflux during pregnancy

Hormonal changes can relax the valve between the food pipe and stomach, while the growing uterus can increase pressure on the stomach. This may cause burning behind the breastbone, sour fluid in the mouth, belching, or symptoms that disturb sleep. Reflux can also cause a cough or throat irritation.

A clinician may first review eating patterns and medicines, then suggest a product suited to your situation. Do not borrow someone else’s medicine or combine several reflux products without advice.

Try smaller meals, remain upright after eating, and avoid lying down soon after food. Notice whether fatty, spicy, acidic, or late meals trigger symptoms. Raising the upper body during sleep may help some people, but use a safe and comfortable arrangement.
