What should you know about Roche digital pathology?

A tissue sample from a biopsy is prepared on a glass slide and scanned. The resulting image can be viewed at different magnifications, allowing a pathologist to inspect cell shape, tissue arrangement and features that may help classify a tumour. Digital tools can support marking areas of interest, comparing images and sending cases for specialist discussion. The scan supports professional interpretation; it does not replace the pathologist or the clinical information surrounding your case.

The result is usually combined with the examination of the original specimen, special stains, immunohistochemistry or other tests when needed. A report may describe whether abnormal tissue is present, what type it appears to be and whether additional testing is recommended.

Ask which sample was scanned, what the pathology report says and whether the findings are conclusive or need another test. Confirm how the result fits with imaging, symptoms and previous treatment. If a second specialist review would help, ask whether your digital slides can be shared for a second opinion.

Contact your care team promptly if a report is difficult to understand, a recommended follow-up has not been arranged, or you develop new symptoms such as rapidly worsening pain, bleeding, breathing difficulty or trouble swallowing. These symptoms need clinical assessment rather than interpretation from an image alone.
