Rhinophyma treatment at home: what to know

Short answer
Home care can reduce irritation around rhinophyma, but it cannot reliably remove established thickened nasal tissue; a dermatologist can assess treatment options.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.
At a glance
- Home care
- Gentle cleansing, moisturising, and trigger avoidance support comfort.
- Established tissue
- Needs an assessment rather than self-removal.
What rhinophyma means
Rhinophyma is a form of advanced rosacea in which the skin of the nose becomes thicker, more uneven, and sometimes enlarged. Gentle care may support the skin barrier and reduce flare triggers, but creams and cleansing do not reshape tissue that has already become bulky. It is not caused by poor hygiene.
What you can do at home
Wash with lukewarm water and a fragrance-free cleanser, pat dry, and use a bland moisturiser. Protect the nose from strong sun and avoid picking, squeezing, abrasive scrubs, and irritating products. Heat, alcohol, spicy foods, and other personal triggers may worsen rosacea symptoms, so keep a brief trigger diary. Arrange a dermatology review if the shape or thickness is changing; options may include CO2 Laser Resurfacing or Electrosurgery, depending on the tissue and your skin.
When to seek care
Seek prompt medical advice for bleeding, an open sore, pus, rapidly increasing swelling, marked pain, or a new area that does not heal. Arrange routine assessment if nasal thickening affects breathing, glasses, washing, or confidence. A clinician can also check whether active rosacea needs treatment.
Questions for your doctor
Ask whether the changes fit rhinophyma, which rosacea triggers matter for you, whether active inflammation should be treated first, and how CO2 Laser Resurfacing or Electrosurgery would differ for your skin.
