Restless leg and whole-body restlessness

Short answer
When restless leg sensations seem to involve the whole body, the pattern may be broader than restless legs alone and should be described carefully.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Why the sensation may spread
Restless legs usually centres on an urge to move the legs during rest, often later in the day. Some people also notice restlessness in the arms or a general internal agitation, especially when symptoms are severe. Whole-body tingling, burning or reduced sensation can point toward a nerve problem, including peripheral neuropathy. Anxiety, medication effects, withdrawal from some medicines, fever or other illnesses can also create a feeling of being unable to keep still. Iron deficiency anaemia and chronic kidney disease are among the health problems a clinician may review; symptoms alone cannot tell you which cause is present.
How to work out the pattern
Write down where the sensation starts, whether it is an urge to move or a feeling of weakness, and whether movement changes it. Note new medicines, dose changes, caffeine, alcohol, sleep loss and other symptoms. Try calm breathing, gentle stretching, a brief walk and a consistent sleep routine. Do not stop prescribed medicine suddenly. Do not use iron supplementation unless a clinician recommends it after considering your history and test results.
When prompt care is needed
Arrange a review if restlessness is new, persistent, spreading, or stopping you from sleeping. Seek urgent help for sudden confusion, severe agitation, fainting, chest pain, breathlessness, new one-sided weakness, trouble speaking, or rapidly developing numbness. A high fever with marked restlessness or a suspected medicine reaction also warrants prompt medical advice.
Questions for your doctor
Does this sound like restless legs with wider symptoms, or a different cause of restlessness? Could a medicine, withdrawal, iron problem, kidney condition or nerve disorder be involved? Which examination or blood tests would clarify the pattern?
