Removal of Sun Spots

Sun spots, also called solar lentigines or age spots, are flat brown marks linked with cumulative ultraviolet exposure. They commonly appear on the face, hands, shoulders, and other exposed areas. A dark patch can have other causes, so a clinician may inspect its shape, border, colour, and change over time before treating it. Sun protection matters because treatment does not remove the exposure that contributed to new pigmentation.

Depending on the assessment, options can include a chemical peel, IPL photofacial, picosecond laser treatment, or cryotherapy for a selected lesion. These approaches work differently: some shed pigmented surface cells, some target pigment with light energy, and some freeze a specific spot. Temporary redness, crusting, swelling, or colour change can occur. Use the recommended gentle skincare and broad sun protection while the skin heals; avoid picking or adding unapproved lightening products.

Have a mark assessed before cosmetic treatment if it is new, asymmetric, unevenly coloured, enlarging, itching persistently, bleeding, or changing in texture. Seek medical advice promptly for a sore that does not heal or for worsening redness, pain, blistering, or discharge after a procedure.
