Remedies for PMS fatigue

What PMS fatigue means
PMS fatigue is low energy or unusual tiredness that follows a repeatable pattern before a period and eases afterwards. Changes in sleep, mood, appetite and discomfort can all make energy feel lower. Fatigue that continues throughout the cycle, is getting worse, or arrives with breathlessness, paleness or heavy bleeding may have another explanation, such as Anaemia, thyroid disease, infection or a sleep problem.
Ways to manage it
Keep a diary for several cycles, recording energy, sleep, bleeding, pain, mood and daily activities. Aim for a regular sleep and wake time, gentle exercise such as walking, and meals containing fibre, protein and varied foods. Plan demanding tasks for times when energy is better and allow recovery breaks. Limit alcohol if it disrupts sleep or worsens mood. A clinician can discuss pain relief, hormonal options or other treatments when lifestyle measures are not enough.
When to seek care
Book an assessment if fatigue affects work, study, relationships or basic activities, does not follow the menstrual pattern, or remains after the period. Seek prompt help for fainting, chest pain, severe breathlessness, new neurological symptoms or thoughts of self-harm. A clinician may review bleeding, medicines, sleep, mood and diet, and may arrange tests for causes such as Anaemia or other illness.
Questions for your doctor
Ask whether your pattern fits PMS, whether bleeding or sleep could explain the tiredness, which tests are useful, and which treatment options suit your health and contraception needs.

Should I take supplements for PMS fatigue?
Discuss supplements with a clinician first, particularly if heavy bleeding, another condition or regular medicines may be involved.
