Hemangiomas are made of extra blood vessels and can be bright red, purple, or bluish. Some are flat, while others are raised, soft, or compressible. A red mark can also represent another vascular lesion, irritation, infection, or a mole, so colour alone cannot establish the diagnosis. Location, texture, age at onset, and change over time help guide assessment.

Protect the mark from repeated rubbing, scratching, and accidental knocks. Keep a simple record of its appearance and photograph it in consistent lighting if it changes. Do not puncture or burn it at home. If it bleeds, apply gentle continuous pressure with clean gauze.
