Itchy red spots in the male pubic area

Shaving, tight clothing, sweat, and rubbing can inflame follicles and cause clustered bumps. Folliculitis is one possible explanation, especially when spots centre on hairs or contain a small pustule. Contact irritation can follow a new wash, lubricant, condom, or laundry product. Because the area can also develop fungal or sexually transmitted infections, ask about ulcers, blisters, burning when urinating, discharge, swollen groin glands, and recent sexual contact. A spot alone cannot identify its cause.

Stop shaving until the skin settles, wash gently, dry carefully, and choose loose breathable underwear. Avoid fragranced products, picking, and sharing towels. Do not apply household antiseptics or leftover prescription creams. If sexual infection is possible, avoid sexual contact or use barrier protection until assessed, and arrange testing through a clinician.

Get prompt care for severe pain, rapidly expanding redness, fever, pus, a tender lump, or swelling of the penis or testicles. Seek urgent help for sudden testicular pain, difficulty urinating, facial swelling, or trouble breathing. Book an examination for blisters, ulcers, discharge, recurrent bumps, or symptoms that do not settle after removing an irritant.

Ask whether the distribution suggests folliculitis, dermatitis, fungal infection, or a sexually transmitted infection; whether testing is needed; and which products are safe for genital skin.
