Red spots in the groin area that are not itchy

Look at whether the spots sit on hair-bearing skin, follow shaving, or match areas rubbed by underwear or exercise. Hair-centred red bumps can occur with folliculitis or ingrown hairs. A smooth patch in a fold may reflect irritation from moisture and friction. Sores, blisters, ulcers, discharge, pain during urination or a new sexual exposure need a clinician's assessment rather than a guessed diagnosis. Not having itch does not exclude infection or another condition.

Keep the area gently clean and dry, wear loose breathable underwear, and pause shaving, waxing, fragranced washes and deodorising products. Do not squeeze bumps or apply household remedies. Avoid sexual contact if there are open sores, blisters or unexplained lesions until you have received medical advice. Note onset, recent products, hair removal, exercise, new partners and whether the spots are changing; these details help a clinician choose an examination or test.

Arrange prompt care for spreading redness, warmth, swelling, increasing pain, pus, fever, open sores, blisters, discharge or urinary symptoms.
