What should you know about red scaly bumps on skin?

A new product, metal, adhesive, or fabric can trigger contact dermatitis, often where the exposure touched. Heat rash tends to occur in sweaty or occluded areas. Sunburn causes tender red skin after ultraviolet exposure. Psoriasis may produce recurring, sharply bordered scaly plaques. Rosacea can cause facial redness with bumps, burning, or flushing. Cellulitis is a deeper infection that may cause expanding warmth, tenderness, swelling, and fever. A photograph and examination are more reliable than colour alone.

Move into shade or a cool environment, rinse gently, and stop suspected irritants. Apply a plain moisturiser and avoid scrubbing, picking, fragranced products, and unprotected sun. Keep the area clean and observe whether it expands, becomes warmer, or develops drainage.
