Red rash in the crease of the arm

The inner elbow stays warm and bends repeatedly, so sweat and friction can irritate softened skin. Atopic dermatitis often affects flexures and may cause dryness, scale, cracking, and itch. Contact dermatitis can appear after a product, plant, fabric, or detergent touches the area. Heat rash produces small bumps after heat, while intertrigo is more likely where moisture and rubbing persist. A sharply edged, scaly patch may suggest ringworm; psoriasis can create a well-defined inflamed area. These patterns overlap, so a non-itchy rash still deserves observation rather than a guessed diagnosis.

Rinse off sweat and pat the crease dry. Use a plain, fragrance-free moisturiser on dry intact skin, but avoid putting products on weeping or infected-looking areas without advice. Wear breathable sleeves, take breaks from repetitive rubbing, and stop any new product that contacts the crease. Keep nails short and avoid scratching. Record whether heat, exercise, a uniform, or a new detergent precedes each flare. If the rash spreads or does not improve, a clinician can distinguish Atopic Dermatitis, Contact Dermatitis, Heat Rash, and infection before choosing treatment.

Seek prompt medical care for increasing warmth, swelling, pain, pus, red streaks, fever, or rapidly spreading redness. Get urgent help for facial swelling, breathing difficulty, extensive blistering, skin peeling, or sores near the eye. Book an assessment for repeated flares, persistent cracking, a ring-shaped border, or a rash that interferes with movement or sleep.
