Short answer

Red light therapy may modestly improve the look and feel of crepey skin, but it is not a replacement for assessment or proven treatment when skin is changing.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

At a glance

Main point
Use as an adjunct, not a substitute for diagnosis or prescribed care.
Safety
Follow device instructions and stop when symptoms worsen.

What it means

Crepey skin can look thin, finely wrinkled or crinkled on the eyelids, neck, chest, arms or knees. Sun exposure, dryness, ageing, repeated stretching and some medicines can contribute. Red light devices emit visible light that may influence cellular activity, but they cannot restore lost volume or correct loose skin like a procedure designed for laxity.

What to do

Choose a device with clear instructions and eye-safety guidance, and use it exactly as directed. Keep the skin clean, protect it from ultraviolet light and use moisturiser if dryness adds to the texture. Take photos in the same lighting rather than judging changes day by day. Stop for burning, persistent redness, swelling or worsening sensitivity, and discuss your medicines and skin history with a qualified clinician.

When to seek care

Arrange a skin assessment for sudden creasing, marked thinning, easy bruising, sores, bleeding, pain or a changing spot. Seek prompt care for facial swelling, blistering, severe eye discomfort or vision change after light exposure. A clinician can distinguish dryness and ageing from eczema, steroid-related thinning, sun damage or another condition.

Questions for your doctor

Ask whether red light is suitable for your symptoms, medicines and skin or eye history, what device safeguards apply, and what improvement would be realistic.
