What should you know about red dot rash?

Dots that itch after a new soap, fabric, adhesive, or cosmetic may fit Contact Dermatitis. A rash in warm, sweaty or folded areas can fit Heat Rash or Intertrigo. Scaly patches may occur with Psoriasis, while a ring-shaped, spreading rash may be Ringworm. Intense night-time itching or affected household contacts can point toward Scabies. Atopic Dermatitis often brings dry, itchy, inflamed skin, and a new medicine can cause Drug Rash. These patterns overlap, so appearance alone cannot establish a diagnosis.

Note when the dots began, where they started, whether they blanch with gentle pressure, and any new products, medicines, heat exposure, bites, or illness. Wash gently with lukewarm water, pat dry, wear loose breathable clothing, and avoid scratching. Stop a newly introduced nonessential skin product while you observe the area.
