What should you know about random red itchy spots on skin?

Acne produces blocked pores and inflamed pimples, while hormonal acne may follow a recurring pattern linked with hormonal changes. Folliculitis centres on hair follicles and can look like itchy or tender small pustules. Razor bumps appear after hair removal when hairs curve back into skin. Rosacea commonly affects the central face with redness and acne-like bumps. Perioral dermatitis can cause clustered bumps around the mouth or nose. Location, shaving, skincare products, menstrual or medication changes, and whether spots contain pus help separate these possibilities.

Wash gently, avoid scrubs and picking, and choose non-comedogenic, fragrance-free products. Pause a newly added product and avoid close shaving over active bumps. Use a cool compress for itch and keep a record of triggers, locations, and flare timing. Do not layer acne, steroid, antibiotic, or antifungal products without guidance, particularly on the face.
