Rainey compression garment

Swelling can occur when lymph fluid is not moving away from an area effectively, including after cancer treatment or lymph-node surgery. A compression garment provides graduated pressure, helping limit fluid build-up while you move. It does not remove the underlying cause and is not suitable for every circulation or skin problem.

The garment should feel supportive rather than sharply painful, numb, or excessively tight. Fit depends on the body area, swelling pattern, skin condition, movement, and any advice from a lymphoedema specialist. A loose fold, rolled edge, or damaged fabric can create uneven pressure.

Have the garment measured or checked by a trained professional when possible. Put it on with smooth fabric and no wrinkles, inspect the skin after removing it, and wash it as directed so its elastic support is maintained. Follow the wearing schedule you were given rather than adding extra pressure or wearing it through worsening discomfort.

Remove the garment and seek clinical advice if you develop new numbness, tingling, colour change, severe pain, marked coldness, or rapidly increasing swelling. Contact a clinician promptly for broken skin, spreading redness, warmth, fever, or drainage, as these can signal infection. Sudden swelling with chest pain or breathlessness needs urgent help.
