Rad G pulse oximeter: what to know

The clip uses light to estimate how much oxygen is carried in the blood and displays a pulse rate. It does not diagnose the cause of breathlessness, confirm that the lungs are healthy, or replace an examination. Cold fingers, movement, nail products, poor circulation, and an imperfect fit can affect the signal. A number that does not match how you feel should be rechecked and discussed rather than viewed in isolation.

Rest quietly, warm your hand, and keep the finger still. Place the sensor as directed and wait for the display to settle. Try another finger if the signal is unstable, then record the reading with the time and your symptoms. Follow any personalised target or monitoring plan given by your clinician. Do not change prescribed oxygen or medicines based only on a home reading.

Seek emergency help for severe breathlessness, blue or grey lips, chest pressure, fainting, new confusion, or inability to speak in full sentences, regardless of the display. Contact a clinician promptly for a persistently concerning reading, a worsening trend, or symptoms that feel more serious than the device suggests.
