Short answer

A Q-switched 1064 laser uses a deeply penetrating wavelength to target selected pigment, but the correct indication, settings, and aftercare must be chosen by a qualified clinician.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What the 1064 wavelength means

The 1064 nanometre wavelength can reach pigment below the most superficial skin layers. In Q-switched mode, energy arrives in brief pulses, allowing a clinician to focus on pigment while limiting heat spread. It may be considered for selected pigmentation and some tattoo colours, although the plan depends on what is being treated.

Possible short-term changes include redness, swelling, tenderness, temporary lightening, or darker marks after inflammation. Deeper pigment and darker skin tones require especially careful assessment because post-treatment colour change can be more noticeable.

Before and after a session

Tell the clinician about recent sun exposure, tanning, prior laser reactions, active skin disease, cold sores, scarring tendencies, and all medicines or creams used on the area. Do not self-treat a changing lesion with laser.

Use the recommended gentle cleanser and moisturiser after treatment. Protect the area from sunlight, avoid picking or abrasive exfoliation, and follow instructions about makeup and active skincare. A clinician may schedule review before deciding whether another session is appropriate.

When to seek care

Ask for medical advice if pain becomes severe, blisters or open areas appear, swelling spreads, or redness continues to intensify. Urgent care is needed for eye symptoms, facial swelling that affects breathing, or signs of a serious allergic reaction. Any suspicious skin mark needs diagnosis before treatment.

Questions for your doctor

Ask why 1064 nanometres is being selected, what result is realistic for your diagnosis, how your skin tone affects the plan, which side effects need a call, and what non-laser options could be considered.
