What should you know about punch excision before after?

Before treatment, discuss the scar's depth, location, skin tone, previous procedures, medicines, allergies, bleeding problems, and any tendency to form raised scars. The clinician may explain whether the removed area will be closed with a stitch or allowed to heal in another planned way. Results depend on the scar and on how the replacement scar heals.

Afterward, a small wound may look red, swollen, bruised, or crusted. The surface can change gradually as the scar matures. Punch excision targets selected depressed scars; it does not erase every mark or correct unrelated texture across the whole face.

Follow the written dressing and cleaning instructions. Keep hands away from the area, avoid picking crusts, and protect healing skin from friction and strong sun exposure. Attend any planned review for dressing changes or stitch removal. Wait for the clinician's advice before applying active acne products, exfoliants, makeup, or scar treatments directly to the wound.

Contact the treating clinic for bleeding that returns, wound separation, increasing warmth, spreading redness, worsening pain, pus-like drainage, fever, or swelling that is getting worse rather than settling. Seek urgent help for heavy bleeding, severe pain, faintness, or swelling affecting the eye.

Ask how your scar may look at each healing stage, when activity can resume, when stitches or dressings are checked, and which signs mean the wound needs an earlier review.
