Pulsating headache on the right side of the head

Note whether the pain builds gradually or starts suddenly, how long it lasts, and whether movement, light, sound, nausea, blocked nose, fever, or facial pressure accompanies it. A one-sided pulsing pattern is often migraine-like, but a symptom pattern alone cannot establish the cause. Allergic rhinitis, chronic sinusitis, a common cold, COVID-19, dehydration, dengue fever, generalised anxiety disorder, and heat exhaustion can also involve headache alongside their other features.

Rest in a quiet, cool place, drink fluids if you may be dehydrated, and avoid heat, alcohol, and strenuous activity while symptoms are active. Keep a brief record of timing, triggers, food, sleep, medicines, and associated symptoms. Use only a pain medicine you already know is suitable for you and follow its label; repeated use can itself contribute to headaches. Arrange a clinical review if episodes recur, change pattern, or interfere with normal activities.

Seek emergency help for a sudden, exceptionally severe headache, or headache with weakness, facial drooping, confusion, fainting, seizure, trouble speaking, vision loss, a stiff neck, or repeated vomiting. Get prompt medical advice for headache with high fever, a new rash, recent head injury, pregnancy, or worsening symptoms. A new one-sided headache that persists or repeatedly returns deserves assessment even when no emergency warning sign is present.

Ask whether the pattern fits migraine or another headache type, whether your medicines or blood pressure need review, and which warning signs should change your plan. Bring your symptom record and mention recent infections, travel, heat exposure, sleep changes, and any new neurological symptoms.
