What should you know about pulsating headache back of head?

Pain at the back of the head may spread from tight neck and scalp muscles, especially after prolonged screen use, awkward posture, or stress. Migraine can also affect this area and may bring nausea or sensitivity to light and sound. A cold, Allergic Rhinitis, or Chronic Sinusitis may add pressure elsewhere in the head, while dehydration and Heat Exhaustion may cause headache with thirst, dizziness, weakness, or sweating. Location is a clue, not a diagnosis; the onset and accompanying symptoms are equally important.

Rest in a quiet, cool room, relax your shoulders, and take breaks from close screen work. Drink fluids if appropriate and eat regularly. Gentle neck movement may help if it does not increase pain; avoid forceful massage or stretching. Follow the label for any medicine you use and avoid taking more than advised. Record the start time, duration, neck symptoms, fever, vision changes, and possible triggers so a clinician can assess the pattern.

Call emergency services for a sudden severe headache, weakness, numbness, speech difficulty, fainting, seizure, confusion, vision loss, or a stiff neck with fever. Seek prompt care when the pain follows an injury, is new and steadily worsening, comes with repeated vomiting, or occurs with severe illness symptoms. A headache with fever after travel or mosquito exposure should also be assessed, including for Dengue Fever.
